Implants

Dental implants are one of the ways to restore missing teeth. Call our office at (508)850-6992 to see if dental implants is the right treatment for you.

A dental implant is a titanium screw that is embedded into your jaw bone. It is biocompatible, bone grows around it, making it stable and thus allowing it to act like a tooth.

Dental implants preserve the jaw bone, they do not decay, and they feel and act like natural teeth. In healthy patients they may provide a long-lasting restoration. Dental implants can be used to replace single as well as multiple teeth. They may replace an existing full or partial denture or enhance retention of an existing full denture. Depending on the number of implants placed, dentures can be modified to be more comfortable for patients who have trouble adapting to the movement of lower dentures or don’t tolerate full coverage of upper dentures.

With a simple surgical procedure an implant is placed into the area where a tooth is missing. The area is then allowed to heal and allow for bone to grow and connect to the implant for 3-6 months. After that time the implant may need to be uncovered and impressions are taken for the replacement tooth. If there is not enough healthy bone to begin with additional procedures may be necessary to grow more bone. In healthy non-smokers the surgical procedure succeeds over 95% of the time.

While implants may be costlier initially and take more time to get a result, in the end they last longer and give a better quality of life to the patient, so long term they are most cost effective than other restorative options. With current advancement the healing period and the gap period until final restoration may be shortened in many cases. We will evaluate your case for immediate implant placement at the time of extraction of natural teeth and may even offer immediate restoration in selected cases.
